Assumption Catholic Church Twantay Mission is about 30 miles southwest of Yangon. The Mission was started by the French Missionary Fathers (MEP) around 1900. The people are mostly Kayin. Many are farmers, some do some gardening and a few have fish ponds. On the whole they are simple and good hearted people. Traveling can be done by road and river and it is quite convenient to move around. In this mission there are about 50 villages where the faithful are scatterd, making up an extensive Mission. In all there are about 1150 Catholic families with a large group of faithful numbering 8624. |
